Indigenous Youth Invited to MD Admissions Workshop

Indigenous youth interested in pursuing a career in medicine are invited to learn more about the UBC MD Undergraduate Program at this year’s virtual Indigenous MD Admissions Workshop.

Running online from July 28 – 30, the workshop will give participants an opportunity to learn about the program’s application process, get an overview of the MD undergraduate curriculum, and hear from Indigenous students, graduates, and faculty on their experiences in the program.

“This annual three-day event helps provide prospective Indigenous students with the necessary tools to better understand the application process, as well as what it takes to successfully complete the undergraduate MD program,” says James Andrew, Indigenous Student Initiatives Manager at the UBC Faculty of Medicine.

The workshop is open to both high school and post-secondary students, and there is no cost to participants. Those interested in attending must submit their application online, along with a copy of their report card or university transcript, proof of ancestry, and a 500-word essay on why they want to pursue medicine.

This will be the eighteenth annual Indigenous MD Admissions Workshop and will be hosted virtually from the Northern Medical Program (NMP) in Prince George, BC. While the workshop will focus on the NMP, students interested in attending the Island Medical Program, Southern Medical Program, and Vancouver Fraser Medical Program are encouraged to attend.

Deadline for application is Friday, July 16, 2021.      Click here to apply
