Do you wonder why exactly exercise is good for you? Have you ever read three different articles that gave entirely different nutritional advice? Do you have a surgery in your future and aren’t sure how best to prepare for it?
Join Nicole Cameron, Julia De Pieri, and Alexandra Jamieson (IMP Class of 2024) as they address these topics and more in their Mini Med School lecture series.
Everyone is welcome to attend any or all of the series’ eight talks, which will be held virtually throughout May and June 2021. The dates and topics are as follows:
May 4 @ 9:30 a.m. – Nutrition (Cut through some of the confusion and information overload surrounding what we eat, provide evidence-based recommendations, and dispel some myths surrounding food and drink.)
May 11 @ 9:30 a.m. – Exercise, Bones & Muscles (Learn how exercise can help to prevent or improve conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, and muscle wasting, and get tips to help you get or stay active safely.)
May 13 @ 9:30 a.m. – Sleep (Look at what science does and doesn’t know about sleep, the importance of sleep to good health, and practical tips to improve your shut-eye.)
May 18 @ 9:30 a.m. – Exercise, Cardiovascular Health, Hypertension & Diabetes (Learn how exercise can help to prevent or improve conditions such as cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, heart failure, hypertension, lipids and cholesterol, and diabetes, get tips to help you get or stay active safely.)
May 20 @ 9:30 a.m. – Vascular Disease (Get an overview of the biological basis of vascular disease, its treatment, and management strategies.)
May 25 @ 9:30 a.m. – Exercise, Mental Health & Cancer (Learn how exercise can help to prevent or improve depression and anxiety, dementia and Alzheimer’s, and cancer outcomes.)
May 27 @ 9:30 a.m. – Nature (Understand the emerging body of evidence about the mental and physical health benefits of time spent in the great outdoors.)
June 1 @ 9:30 a.m. – Preparing for Surgery (Learn evidence-based strategies to prepare for procedures and surgeries.)

Interested attendees can choose to participate in optional surveys before and after the lecture series to gauge the effectiveness of our Mini Med School in promoting health literacy and community connectedness.
