There are many ways for you to engage with medical students and medical education at the Island Medical Program (IMP). You can teach IMP students as a clinical faculty member, volunteer as a mentor with our Student Affairs department, or conduct health education research with like-minded scholars through the Centre for Health Education Scholarship. The IMP also offers faculty development through our Physician Education Program.
More than 900 clinical faculty are involved in the medical education and training of IMP students. These medical educators are located throughout Vancouver Island, from Victoria to Port Hardy, and they practice in a variety of medical settings, from large hospitals to community clinics.
Teach
Clinical faculty are teachers, both physicians and health professionals, who educate IMP students and inspire them to stay and practice in BC. There are teaching opportunities, ranging from case-based learning tutors to clinical practice preceptorships and more, in all years of the program.
Mentor
Volunteer mentors are physicians who support IMP students with their short-term learning objectives or long-term career goals, offer guidance on personal matters, provide networking opportunities, and more. There are mentorship opportunities for all years of the program, each with their own format and group size.
Research
The IMP Centre for Health Education Scholarship is a research and education community that supports scholarship on how healthcare providers learn and how health professions educators teach. As a member, you will have access to networking, peer-review, and learning opportunities.
