The Island Medical Program (IMP) offers Faculty Development learning opportunities designed for faculty members who work in a teaching capacity in clinical or didactic environments.
What Local Faculty Development Opportunities Does the IMP Offer?
The IMP hosts Faculty Development events that focus on specific local faculty needs. These events are designed by our academic leads.
Many events are held in Victoria at the Royal Jubilee Hospital or on UVic’s campus. For faculty who are not local to Victoria, we also host virtual opportunities and some in-person events at affiliated UBC distributed sites on Vancouver Island.
To learn more about upcoming local events, clinical faculty should join the Faculty Development mailing list. Email the Faculty Development team at facdev@uvic.ca to join the list and receive invitations to upcoming events.
Clinical faculty can suggest topics for future Faculty Development events by reaching out to their academic lead. Clinical faculty who are planning their own events can request support by filling out this form.
What Provincial Faculty Development Opportunities Does the IMP Offer?
Clinical faculty at the IMP also have access to the following programs offered through UBC Faculty Development.
Teacher Certificate Program
The Teacher Certificate Program (TCP) is a provincially based virtual program open to all educators at the UBC MD Undergraduate and Postgraduate Program’s distributed sites, including the IMP. This program aims to equip teachers in medical education with the foundational knowledge and skills to teach effectively. TCP is divided into two programs:
- TCP 1: Foundational Teaching is designed to cover core teaching and assessment competencies for those who teach in the MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) and Postgraduate Medical Education Program (PGME).
- TCP 2: Complementary Topics with a Clinical Teaching Focus provides additional topics that continue to explore important teaching concepts.
Research & Reflections on Teaching
The Research & Reflections on Teaching series features expert speakers on emerging and relevant topics applicable to all faculty who teach in the MD Undergraduate Program, Postgraduate Medical Education, and Health Professional Programs. The series provides an opportunity for faculty to connect and network with three sessions per academic year: two virtual sessions and one hybrid session, and faculty can attend any or all.
Peer to Peer
The Peer to Peer program is a multi-session series on core educational topics offered in an interactive and interprofessional small group context. The program brings together clinical teachers in the medical and health professions programs to learn with, from, and about each other.
