Faculty Development

The Island Medical Program (IMP) Physician Education Program (PEP) offers Faculty Development learning opportunities designed for physicians who work in a teaching capacity in clinical or didactic environments.

What Faculty Development Opportunities Does the IMP PEP Offer?

Teacher Certificate Program

The Teacher Certificate Program (TCP) is a provincially based virtual program open to all educators at the UBC MD Undergraduate Program’s distributed sites, including the Island Medical Program. TCP1 covers core topics in health professionals’ education, while TCP2 addresses needs identified by MD clinical preceptors for support and development.

What Other Learning Opportunities Are There?

Clinical faculty at the IMP have access to programs and resources offered by UBC Faculty Development. They also have access to general continuing professional development (CDP) opportunities provided by the IMP PEP and UBC CPD.

Clinical faculty are also welcome to join the Centre for Health Education Scholarship, which builds capacity in medical education scholarship through faculty mentorship and collaborative relationships.

Resident medical educators have exclusive access to the Residents as Teachers program, a BC-wide initiative offered by UBC Faculty of Medicine Office of Faculty Development. The Residents as Teachers program will train you in core teaching competency areas.

The UBC Department of Family Practice Postgraduate Program website has additional teaching resources – everything from planning for learning to learner-centered teaching and competency assessment.
