Info Session with Dr. Shirzad & IMP Students


Do you want to be a doctor? Find out how you can earn your MD on Vancouver Island with the Island Medical Program (IMP), which delivers the UBC MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) in collaboration with UVic and Island Health.

At this special evening information session, you’ll learn about the MDUP and the IMP, the admissions process, what it takes to become a doctor, and what it’s like being in medical school. A Q&A period will follow the presentation.

Dr. Shahin Shirzad, Assistant Dean of Admissions, will co-host this special evening information session with current IMP students. The IMP admissions coordinator will also be on-hand to answer questions.

This session will be held simultaneously in-person at UVic and online via Zoom. (Please note, there are only 72 in-person seats available). You can select which type of seat you would like through the registration link below. You will receive the Zoom or in-person location details after completing your registration.

Do you want to know more about the Island Medical Program (IMP) and learn how you can earn your MD on Vancouver Island?

Join the IMP Admissions Coordinator for one of our free hour-long information sessions, which you can attend in-person on UVic campus or join simultaneously on Zoom.

At the sessions, you will learn everything you need to know about applying to the IMP, including admissions requirements, application dates and deadlines, academic and non-academic requirements, and an overview of the application process and selection criteria. You’ll also learn more about the program and have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Fluent in Spanish, English, and Mandarin Chinese, Monique is dedicated to supporting diverse communities in Canada. Holding a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she has made meaningful contributions to various sectors.

Dr. Lauren Kitney


Site Director, Clinical Skills

Dr. Lauren Kitney received her medical degree from the University of Alberta and completed her training in pediatrics at the University of Toronto / The Hospital for Sick Children. She works as a consultant general pediatrician, seeing children – from from newborns to adolescents – with a wide range of medical and developmental problems. Her clinical practice includes hospital work at Victoria General Hospital and a consulting office practice. Dr. Kitney is the Island Medical Program’s Director of Clinical Skills and is the workplace-based assessment lead for the MD Undergraduate Program at UBC.
