Dr. Joana Gil-Mohapel (she/her) is originally from Portugal, where she completed her BSc in Biochemistry and MSc in Cell Biology. She conducted her PhD in Neuroscience at Lund University, Sweden, and went on to complete post-doctoral training at the University of Victoria in the Division of Medical Sciences (DMS). She has co-authored over 70 publications in the field of neuroscience. Dr. Gil-Mohapel is actively involved in teaching Island Medical Program undergraduate medical students and DMS graduate neuroscience students. She has also taken several provincial leadership roles within the UBC MD Undergraduate Program and currently serves as the Associate Director of Curriculum, Years 1 and 2.
