Teacher Certificate Program


The Teacher Certificate Program (TCP) is a provincially based virtual program open to all educators at the UBC MD Undergraduate Program’s distributed sites, including the Island Medical Program. TCP sessions can be completed in any order, and it’s not a requirement to complete TCP 1 before TCP 2.


TCP1: Foundational Teaching

This program consists of five online workshops covering core topics in health professionals’ education. Each session will accumulate toward a certificate of completion and Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits.

In this session, you will learn how to

  • facilitate active learning appropriate to the learner’s stage
  • explain current concepts underpinning active learning
  • target teaching to the level of the learner
  • use effective questioning to elicit clinical reasoning and/or decision making

  • describe characteristics of healthy relationships (UBC professional standards) and boundaries

TCP2: Career Planning & Wellness

This program consists of five online workshops that address needs identified by MD clinical preceptors for support and development. Each session will accumulate toward a certificate of completion and CME credits.

In this session, you will

  • discuss benefits of promotions for clinical faculty
  • see an overview of clinical faculty promotions within the Faculty of Medicine
  • review components of the UBC-format CV templates in Promotions
  • discuss highlighting accomplishments within the CV and tips for a successful Promotions application
